IE > Internet Options > Home page setting?

Hi why is that my IE %26gt; Options home page disable? I can set my home page settings. How can i activate it?

IE %26gt; Internet Options %26gt; Home page setting?microsoft access

The only reasons I can think of is that either your browser's home page has been hijacked by a virus or there is a corporate policy that has disabled the option to change your home page.

If you're using IE 7, on the menu bar somewhere on your right, there's a "Home" button with a picture of a house on it. And right next to it there's a drop down arrow. Click on it after you've navigated to the page you want set as your homepage.

One Love !!!

IE %26gt; Internet Options %26gt; Home page setting?windows mobile 6 internet explorer

after you type it in, click apply then ok. close and reopen. if it doesnt work then sry i dunno.

mandee
Is this on a PC at work or at home?

If its at work it may be that the company you work for has implemented a system policy in Windows to make sure that you always go their preferred home page, this policy will also have disabled the function to change it.

If this is the case you can't change it unless you are a system administrator.
You browser may have been hijacked. What you can try is a program called "cwshredder" to solve the problem: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/progr... Scroll down the page a bit and download the program.

Failing that, you can set the homepage with a Windows utility called gpedit.

This was posted on a site which I have put below:

Go to Start Menu.

Choose "Run"

Type "gpedit.msc"

A menu will come up that looks like a file browser. On the left look for the item "User Configuration"

Click the plus next to it, to expand it out.

You will see some folders drop down.

Look for "Windows Settings"

Expand it out.

Look for "Internet Explorer Maintenance"

Expand it out.

Some folders will drop down.

Select the one that says "URLS"

Some items will appear in the right hand side pane.

Double click the one that says "Important URLS"

There will be 3 sets.

The first set is your home page setting. Check the box "Customize Home Page URL"

Enter the page that you want in the blank.

Click "ok"

exit the program.

***************

Now you have set the home page in the most secure way possible.

The next step explains how to prevent any changes being made to that start page. Either by some sort of Spyware or by a User.

In order to reverse this process, you will have to go through these steps listed below again to change the home URL in the future.

Go to Start Menu.

Choose "Run"

Type "gpedit.msc"

When it comes up this time, look for "Administrative Templates."

Expand it out.

Look for "Windows Components"

Expand it out.

Look for "Internet Explorer"

Click on this folder once.

Some items will appear in the right hand side pane.

Look for the one called: "Disable Changing Home Page Settings"

When the menu comes up select the option "Enable" and click "Ok."

Close the program.

**********************

You must do the above steps in order for this to work properly.

Your default home page is now set in stone. If you go into Internet Explorer and check your internet options, you will notice the area to change your home page is now unavailable.

In order to change it, again you must go through the previous step and select "disable" on "Disable Changing Home Page Settings"

***********

This is the lock-down administrative way of stopping that setting from being changed.
There is a setting to lock your home page to prevent hijackers from changing it. I'm on Firefox so I don't know what the IE equivalent is. It should be under options. Just make sure to reset it after the change, for security reasons.

IE & FoxFire?

I'm thinking about switching over to FoxFire. At this moment I use IE7. Should I switch? Is FoxFire better? And if I do switch, do I still need to keep updating IE?

IE %26amp; FoxFire?windows mail

Firefox is a great internet browser. So great that pretty much every major website recognizes it. It's incredibly slick and fast. Installing it is a breeze. Adding features is practically seamless. And once you get tabbed browsing, you'll be wondering how you ever lived without it. The download manager is also handy, although make sure you set it so you can manual choose where your files go. I've only run into a few compatibility problems, but these were scattered and understandable. Some 3rd party plugins might not work, but you can always switch to IE in these rare situations. Anyway, long story short, make the change. Get Firefox. Hope this helped.

IE %26amp; FoxFire?microsoft maps internet explorer

fire fox is way better
me too.

i just switch to firefox

i think it is better than IE
I prefer firefox way much better..But if you want you can still keep your IE..And its really up to you if you still want to updater IE..
I've been using Firefox for over three years now. It's awesome!

I still have Internet Explorer, but I don't use it. I don't update it either. There's no problem with not updating IE. I would highly recommend the switch.
Yes Firefox is a good browser, but every program has its pros and cons. i.e security, privacy, user friendly etc......

But I would have say Internet explorer is more secure.

Its up to you just try it out, you don't have to uninstall IE7. You can use both if you like I do lol.

You don't have to update IE7 either if your not going to use it at all, but make sure firefox is your default web browser.

You still need to update the security patches etc from Microsoft.

In the end it comes down to preference, do you want a secure browser. Or do you want a browser which looks good and is easy to use (sort of). The IE7 has some of the same feature now anyway like window tabs etc...

I vote IE7

Hope that gave you an insight into these two web browsers.
I dfont know about FOX FIRE but I have FIRE FOX and I love it!!!
firefox it is simpler to use and it dosnt take up the rescources like ie7. and there is a plug in tab on FF in case you need to use an IE web page. you can dl IE tab for FF. there is also less spy ware and any malware made for FF.,

Problems with this IE, help?

I will try and give as many details possible. Whenever I go to open a window browser starts to freeze, it happens alot in MySpace, I get the message IE encountered a problem and needs to close. Sometimes it happens checking email too but it didn't happen with this site at all. When it happens I could only be at a site for like 5 seconds then it's closing. I took advice and d/l Firefox I didn't care for that because it was taking forever for a page to load and some things you couldn't see, I am now trying Opera but that is also slow at loading a page and I don't quite understand that. People said a bug, so I did a Norton, nothing showed. I d/l Spybot and it found things which I got rid of. Puter worked well for 1 day and now it's back to doing the same thing oh and I did a system restore and like I said it worked one day.

When that message popped up I checked what was with it and it was this long link and the end was .txt. I have Windows XP, service pack 1 and I think the IE is 5 or 6.

XP with SP1, and you don't know the version of IE? That's your problem. Downloading SP2 and all the updates for XP and IE will more than likely solve those problems unless it is something else but I'm willing to say the updates will help and highly recommend them for security purposes. I believe the updates in SP2 feature security updates for IE also.

Thats an easy one u have to update ur IE but im not suure how ur gonna get on the website since it closes or freezes so i would say delete ur internet exployer and then go to windows update. it should give the the latest IE.. as well websites contain bugs as well as music dwnloading programs such as lime wire ..etc so i would try to not dwn load music or files online from a website ur not to suure from. i hope this works but not then send a message to me and ill probably find a way.
Likely, you need to update either your browser or one of your add-ons.

First, upgrade to Service Pack 2, and restart, to let the upgrades take.

Second, make sure that your Flash Player has updated to Flash 9 (which is the current release used by MySpace).

Finally, if you are still having trouble, click on the Tools tab on your tool bar, select Internet Options, click the Program tab, and select the "Manage Add-ons" button to make sure that they are updated.
If you're running XP, you're running I.E. 6. Get the updates. You also need to update to XP SP2.
It sounds like you might still have a trojan downloader on your computer that is "phoning home" and delivering new malware to your computer on a periodic basis. I would try a free online scan with Ewido:

http://www.ewido.net/en/

Ewido is excellent for removing trojans that other anti-virus and anti-spy programs always seem to miss.

Opera should run really really fast, that is a reason that I suspect that you still have a malware problem.

BTW, doing a system restore shortly after doing malware removal is a huge no no . If you restore back to a point BEFORE you removed the malware, you will actually restore the viruses, spyware, and other assorted junk that you just removed!

And oh yeah, you should seriously consider an upgrade to SP2, ONLY once you are sure you are 100% malware free. SP2 is much more secure.

Hope this helps a bit.

Good luck.
firefox
this means u have a virus.

if u dont take care of it soon, it will eat up ur computer
account a we-blocker

the email is giving your computer viruses which freezes and lag your cmputer. if your computer isn;t firewalled get that too.

Why does IE close automatically when accessing MySpace?

When ever I access MySpace from the MSN Messenger icon the window loads, logs me in and then closes all Internet Explorer windows when the page finished loading after a few seconds.

Why is this happening. I used to be able to access MySpace.

I have tried disabling AV and Firewalls and have no filters on IE7. I am running the latest updates.

No unhelpful comments please, like "use Firefox instead". They are not helpful and I like IE.

You may have it set to "Full Screen". Move your mouse to the top of the screen as high as it can go and your "Bar" should appear.

If you do not like this, move your pointer to the top to get your bar to come up, then click the tools button (the little gear on the right side) and clear the check mark next to "Full Screen".

Help updating to IE 7...it semms to hang.?

I say seems to hang because it does not respond but when you check Task Manager under processes it's CPU usage is changing over time. However it's CPU usage is VERY high, it's using anywhere from 45 to 50% of the CPU. When I install the update it takes a while but seems to go fine, then on restart it changes my IE icon to version 7's icon, when I open it it sits there with a blank screen with one tab at the top which reads "connecting........" This is all it does, I can access nothing within it but it continues to consume my CPU but never gets flagged by Task manager as not responding. I just updated my dad's computer and it works fine, now I do it on mine and I have to run system restore and restore to the point just before I ran the update to get my old IE back. Can anyone help???

Help updating to IE 7...it semms to hang.?windows updates

It continues to hang because of some other software that is currently running in the background (in most cases). I would either use the Task Manager to shut down any unecessary programs that you do not currently need to be operating at the time prior to installation of the new IE 7. Another option is to turn some programs off permantely using the MSCONFIG command. To do this, you begin as follows:

1. Click on Start

2. Click on Run

3. Type in MSCONFIG in the field, hit enter

4. Once the program opens, click on the Startup tab

5. Review the programs that start up each time your computer starts. If they are not necessary, take the check mark out.

6. Once you complete this task, click on OK and restart your machine.

Good luck!

IE 7 should not effect your Interent connection and as a result I think you need to check the new Internet settings.

As you said it should work automatically...

I must also point out that 50% is pretty high for CPU usage during Internet use.

I would use the http://www.microsoft.com for the best troubleshoot help.

IE new window issue?

When I open a new IE window, while loading it swaps with an old one. The I have to go to the new window.

This is specially painful when I am on window1, right click on a link on that page to open a new window, the new window (window3) starts loading and during this time, window2 comes to front.

my advice is to stop using internet explorer and grap mozilla firefox at mozilla.com. Firefox is much safer and less problematic than internet explorer. If you want to keep internet explorer I recommend downloading and installing internet explorer 7 from microsoft if you are still using ie6. If you are using version 7 and this problem persists, try reinstalling it or look at microsoft's support database.

I personally recommend not installing IE7 as of yet. Release candidates can always do harm to your computer.

Firefox uses a Windows process inside what we call a "library". That DLL file, which can be needed by Firefox, may have been altered and made unreadable by your installation of IE7.

I would recommend uninstalling IE7 and re-installing Firefox.

Ie defendrer?

I downloaded "ie defender" and cannot remove it. i have vista; dell inspiron 1721.

i just got this virus a couple days ago! i had a heck of time trying to find something to remove it. try SUPERAntiSpyware, it caught IE defender on my system and removed it for me and its free. i also tried the removal instructions from one of those forum websites but they were complicated and i didn't get the virus out. try superantispyware, it works and its really easy, you just wait for it to scan your system.

ad-ware works fine too. i used that too. ad-ware finds a lot of tracking cookies also that supersntispyware sometimes misses, but if IE defender is the only bothering you, superantispyware works really well.

Removing IEDefender, or IE Defender is a difficult process, but it can be done. IEDefender made its way into your computer without your permission and now it's damaging your machine. This rogue anti-spyware program will launch on every Windows startup and download more malware into your computer. IEDefender displays constant pop-ups and system alerts that mislead you into purcahsing the full version of the program. Do NOT trust IEDefender. I suggest you remove IEDefender immediately. Here are the instructions to get rid of IEDefender.

IE/ Firefox Browser closes randomly, computer shuts down randomly?

There are several problems that I'll address here:

1. My internet browsers close randomly/unexpectedly. I thought it might be a problem with IE so I switched to Firefox, but it stills happens. It happens more frequently when the computer first starts up, but every 3 minutes or so the browser closes.

2. The computer itself restarts randomly. I've changed my power settings but it still does it. Is there any fix or any suggested power settings? Whenever the computer comes back on I get a message "Windows has recovered from a serious error."

3. I can't change font sizes in Microsoft Works Word Processor or the program will freeze.

I've googled all of the problems and I've found people asking for help but no one knows a solution. I really hope you guys can help!

I've also ran Avast! virus scan, Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware, Ace Utilities, etc, and nothing comes up, so I doubt it's any form of spyware and if it is a virus it's a very elusive one.

Firefox Myths:

IE not caching images!?!?

Im using IE 6 on Windows and have noticed the browser constantly redownloading the same images over and over. Internet Options - Check New Versions of Page is set to Automatic.

I've tried the following:

a= new Image()

a.src="myimage.gif";

and

%26lt;div style="display:none"%26gt;

%26lt;img src="myimage.gif"%26gt;

%26lt;/div%26gt;

but both techniques have not helped to reduce the 60 seperate HTTP calls the browser is making. FF is fine of course.

Any ideas?

IE not caching images!?!?microsoft publisher

Are the images on your local hard drive? Internet Explorer won't cache them - at least I've never seen it do so.

If the images are on a server is the server set to send headers which tell IE not to cache the images.

Is your "Temporary Internet Files" set to a drive or folder that you have write access to? If pages are cached there as you surf, or you can copy a file there, then it is.

How much space is set aside for your cache, is it enough?

I've heard there is an issue with IE not caching images loaded from css. Is that the case here?

Use Firefox! Its 1000 times safer!
Suggest you go to windows update and update your computer.

Also do disk clean up to include history etc and scan your disc for errors and virus also use spybot or ad-aware.
If you know when this problem started you can do a system restore to a day prior to that day. Just reboot your PC and tap the F8 key. Choose 'safe mode' and once in safe mode click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore. Choose a system scheduled restore point and that should sort out your problem.
